A macro Christmas!

Here at LobsterLove we purchased a shiny new macro lens but I haven't had the chance to play with it properly yet! So I spent Christmas day stalking round my Dad's house and snapping little macro shots, they're not the best but a start, I hope you enjoy my little macro Christmas collage

Many thanks for all your support in 2010 and here's to a sparkly 2011

Halloween spider cakes

When I was a lot smaller my Mum had a Cadburys halloween recipe book and me and my sisters loved it!
For as long as I can remember we requested spider cakes and other yummy things!
Fast forward a good 15 years, and I've spent the last couple of years showing people how to make spider cakes and here is my version:

You will need

Cadburys chocolate fingers
Chocolate covered teacakes (for the body)
Chocolate mini rolls (for the head)
Buttercream icing
And things to decorate, eyes etc

These spiders are hard to move once made so I suggest making them on whatever you wish to serve them on

Start by cutting a mini roll in half and placing it next to a teacake to give the spider body shape. Cover the body in the buttercream icing.

Next cut the chocolate fingers in half, then join 2 halves together to make a knee using the icing (you can angle the cuts to give a smoother shape), then stick the leg into postition on the body. Make as many legs as you like.

Then decorate your spider and enjoy, it's great fun and kids of all ages (!) will love them

Everyone's spiders and the pumpkins

Don't forget your pumpkins! Hope you all have a lovely spooky weekend

The beauty of bespoke

Here at LobsterLove everything is made to order which gives the opportunity to change colours and materials and create a bespoke piece for your big day

A bride contacted me and asked for some bridesmaid jewellery sets to match her colour scheme which is is swarovski olivine and smoked topaz. After some consulation she ordered the 'Sophie' set but with olivine and smoked topaz crystals included in the design

Here are some pictures of the finished pieces which look lovely, and I can't wait to see the wedding pictures!

It really is possible to have bespoke jewellery handmade for you, which is perfect for your big day and matches with your colour scheme

Jewellery days

Recently my friend held a crafty day and we gathered at her house and had a go at various different things including crepe making, yum!
I've recently decided to branch out and hold jewellery lessons for hen parties that are looking for something a little bit different
So with this in mind I took all my tools and some spare beads to my friends craft day, it was really good fun and was really interesting and helpful teaching people I'd not met before (and some I knew) how to make things

Here are some of the things that were made and everyone went home proudly clutching something sparkly! Details on hen parties to follow soon

Co-ordinating your bridesmaids

When I got married this summer I had three lovely bridesmaids, now one bridesmaid was (still is) expecting which is very exciting, however it made dress shopping slightly more interesting.
We ended up with two of them wearing the same dresses and a beautiful maternity dress for the other one.

Different dress styles and even colours is becoming a lot more popular, whilst brides still want to have their maids co-ordinating on the day, so how can you get round this?
As well as matching flowers why not consider matching accessories

Mine wore the same headbands which looked lovely and provided some sparkly co-ordination between them

And here we all are!

And here are the headbands

These can be made in any colour and can be made to include Swarovski crystal like this red one pictured below

A dinosaur fit for a wedding

We decided not to hire a 'wedding' car as it didn't work with the plans for the day or really fit our budget either!

So we decided to travel in my Dad's car which was totally perfect, and he had a mini bottle of sparkly rosé chilled for us when we got out to take some outdoor pics between the Church and the village hall

At some point in life my Dad was given a cute dino which has pride of place in the car and for the big day he had has own little bow.
So here is the little dino dressed for a wedding, and he's still wearing his bow and I suspect that he will do so for a long time to come

Say cheese!!

Before Mr Lobster got down on one knee in the sand, I knew we'd have a cake of cheese instead of the 'traditional' wedding cake

And we did! After a couple of cheese tasting sessions (yum), we decided on our cheeses, there was a heart-stopping moment when one cheese got lost in transit, but luckily my eagle-eyed sister spotted the delivery guy on the 2nd attempt! (he got the wrong house completely first time?!?!?)

So here is a picture of our lovely cake, we decided against decoration and to just let it speak for itself, it was served with some crusty bread and a selection of crackers. We cut it using a lovely cake knife that belonged to his parents and everytime I see it in the drawer (the knife not the cheese, that would be seriously pongy by now) it makes me smile

So the cheeses, all english apart from a little spanish cheese sitting on top

From the bottom: Gorwydd Caerphilly, Kings Favourite, and Barkham Blue, then the cheese on the side is a Cornish Yarg (imported from Cornwall via rubbish couriers)

Teal yummyness

There are a wonderful amount of colour schemes used in weddings and I'm widening my collection to reflect the choices available

New on the site today are bracelets made using combinations of freshwater pearls and beautiful teal glass pearls, or the teal pearls and clear swarovski crystals. The teal colour is really striking and will add a splash of colour to wedding outfits or could be worn for some everyday sparklyness

Sparkly comb

I've had a great time working with a March bride who wanted her comb to be in gold and with AB swarovskis, so it was very sparkly!! After some consultations we decided on a design and I set to work on it and here it is (pictured with matching silver combs for the bridesmaids)

I also made her some purple pearl and swarovski bracelets and matching pendants. It was great fun finishing this order and I'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures of her big day :)
